The weekend I finally made my way to Chicago, it was the winning weekend for the Cubs and Ireland ! What a fun experience, if I do say so myself. The River was died blue in honor of the Chicago Cubs win!
As I was walking the streets of Chicago, I wondered why there were so many flags hanging with a W on it. I could only assume it was for the win but long behold, it was a long time standing tradition to hang a flag with a W every time the Cubs won. Now since it had been 108 years since the Cubs won the World Series, you could only image the amount of W flags hanging on the streets. I met a man who told me the story of the W. Back in the 1940’s, when the scoreboard was being constructed, the W flag would hang outside the stadium for those on the train passing by to see if the Cubs won or lost. The tradition remains strong and so much fun!
The fun continues ! Ireland (one of my favorite cultures) beat New Zealand in Rugby for the first time in 111 years. The game was held at Soldier Field in Chicago, the celebrations continued ! And it was a good time. Side note: I normally don’t allow for random men to kiss me in bars but he had traveled all the way from Ireland to see his team win and what can I say, the accent gets me every time.
